ANNA - SUMMER 2006

At the end of our summer holiday, we made a stopover on Langkawi for a beach holiday. We made a trip to a tropical reef, where the others went snorkeling and scuba diving. My mother and me stayed closer to the beach, to feed the fish. I even saw black tip sharks! As my armbands were not good enough for swimming in the sea, they gave me a life vest. There were many Japanese on the boat, who could not swim, so the boat had enough in stock. The size was a little too large for me but my mother tied me up like a sausage.

When we came home, there was another surprise: our dog Laska was pregnant. She had taken her chances when we were not there and now look at the results. Within 4 weeks, the puppies were born, four tiny little sweet things. I wanted to keep all of them, but my mother said they would not remain small forever and anyway, one dog and 4 kids was enough. But the first two months I played with them the whole day.
A cultural event was organized by the Dutch School and I was also invited. My brothers and sister where in the organizing team, they played a puppet show, with a dragon, who turned out to be an orange duck. I had lots of fun!

Then it was again time for holiday. This time we went to Bali. We did such a lot there! We went to the tree top adventure park. The tree tops were too high for me, which really spoilt my mood in the beginning. But then I found lots of Indonesian families, and in no time I started playing around with them. I made scary sounds and pulled faces, and they all run away from me, so I started chasing them around the playground. We had a lot of fun.
Everywhere in Bali you see interesting statues, which you can climb on or imitate. All hotels had a swimming pool and most of them were close to the beach, so I was in the water most of the time. And I loved the food: so much rice, it is almost like Bangladesh! So while my family members were ordering complicated things like nasi campur and gado gado, I stuck to my nasi putih.

In November, there was political unrest in Dhaka, because the elections are coming and a caretaker government is taking over. Therefore, policemen and RAB are stationed all over the city. The RAM men are very impressive, all angry looking men with black head scarves. The black head scarf in this case was supplied by Karmela, the face was supplied by me.
