ELODIE SUMMER 2006

After our holiday in the Netherlands and Britain, we made a stop over in Langkawi. Our hotel was straight on the beach so we had a lot of fun on the "Flyfish" and sipping cocktails in the sunset. Unfortunately it lasted only 4 days, before we had to go back to school. I am in 6th grade now, so in middle school. Finished with the easy primary, and I have to wear a uniform, which is even worse than the first one, with a grey woollen knee-long skirt. When it is hartal, we get to wear our own clothes, but even then, there are limitations as to what you may wear: no shoes with heels (even tiny ones), no shirts without sleeves, no jewellery. And then look at my female teachers, who look like true Christmas trees, all painted, with gold and diamonds and layers of make-up. And I am not allowed anything!
When we came home from holiday, our dog Laska was highly pregnant and a few weeks later, we had four lovely puppies, two brownish black boys and two black girls. My mother would not let me keep them, however sweet they were, and put advertisements to get rid of the poor little things.

In October, I performed in a puppet show for the Dutch School, called something like "the princess and the dragon", where the dragon was an orange duck. The kids loved it. I also participated in the swim team in school, reluctantly though, because it was one hour every day after school, whereas for me walking around the block is already an achievement. But in the end I even became second in one of the matches.
Shortly after that, it was Ramadan, the annoying four weeks of fasting and moody people. But after Ramadan came Eid holiday, and we went on a holiday again, this time to Bali.

Bali was fun! I tried Balinese painting and Balinese dancing, and had my first diving lessons. Also, we went to a tree top adventure park, where you had to walk over ropes and ladders at 4 meters height' and more. I managed to finish the blue and red dound. I wanted to do the black round as well, like the boys, but after I had been howling of fear for 10 minutes in one of the most scary places, my mother decided that it was enough. But still it was fun!

After the Bali holidays, December was already there, and with it the season holidays Sinterklaas and Christmas. When you no longer believe in Sinterklaas, suddenly you get tasks in the event, like writing poems for family members, buying presents, making surprises and baking pepernoten. This year, I was old enough to become a member of the crew, and I was Zwarte Piet, the helper of Sinterklaas. I was unrecognizable to all, except my sister Anna and one other Dutch girl. As I was the keeper of the bag with pepernoten, the Dutch girl kept telling me, that she would reveal to all other children who I was, if I did not keep giving her more pepernoten.
I am also designing a website of my own, and obviously, it will be beautified with music and pictures of gorgeous me. One afternoon, I made about one hundred pictures of myself, to be able to choose a few. My mother also stole some, which you can see underneath.
