VINCENT 2003

The Uzbeks do not celebrate Easter; neither do they celebrate Christmas or Whitsun. Even though some Russian orthodox people live here, it is a minority and the celebrations of the Muslims, who form over 80% of population, get most of the attention. We however like to stick to our traditions and therefore painted these nice Easter eggs and ate some chocolates. The egg form we just imagined.
To the left you see us with the boat, we built ourselves. It was not strong enough to carry us over our enormous swimming pool so we had to
swim ourselves. Teb made our dog Tobias sail this wild see, and he could do it. Below you see my friend Mike, from The Hague. We have been in school together in the Netherlands for some years. He came with us on the sailing boat during our holiday. Actually, he has learned sailing with the scouts and he is a real expert, unlike me!

In summer, we went for two months to the Netherlands for holiday. We could do this, since my little sister Anna was born on the 2nd of May, and my mother had a long maternity leave. We rent a sailing boat for two weeks and sailed the Ijsselmeer. When Mike was with us, there were seven of us in the small boat. Very cozy...we were lucky that Anna was so small, she slept almost all day. The weather was quite good in those days so we swam in the Ijsselmeer. Which my mother did not like too much, because she is always afraid something will happen. I don't know why, we can swim and the Ijsselmeer is so small! Nothing can happen!

We also went to the castle in Muiden on one of the rainy days, which was very nice. In Uzbekistan you have many old leftovers from the Silk Road, but as far as I know the knights did never reach this place. So in Uzbekistan old buildings are totally different, a lot of gold and blue and decorated tiles.
To the left it is me and my sister Elodie, on a rainy day. The weather in my home country is not half as nice as in Uzbekistan, it rains far too often.
On a sunny day, we went to Ponypark Slagharen. I wanted to go to Sixflags, where you have a lot of roller coasters, but my mother thought we should also think about the little ones, and for sure Elodie was not going to pass the 130 centimeter limit. So I had to put up with the stupid park. Luckily there was a "Free fall" attraction, this was at least a bit exciting. Most of the other attractions were just boring boring.

When we came back to Uzbekistan, it was still summer, and we went to the mountains outside Tashkent to swim, at least skinny dip because we forgot our swimming trunks. The water in the mountains is very cold and crystal clear. My mother was just too late with the picture! Quite soon after that the school already started. i cannot imagine how children in the Netherlands can survive with only six weeks summer holiday, personally I think three months is far too little.
