WORLDCOOK'S TRAVELS - COX'S BAZAR (Bangladesh)
Recipes from Bangladesh Travel to Bangladesh Travel to other countries

Cox's Bazar lies in the province Chittagong and is the "tourist capital" of Bangladesh and it lays on the south coast on the Bay of Bengal. It is flanked by no less than 120 kilometers of beach, and thus has the biggest beach in the world. The beaches are not very crowded. The tourists that come are mostly of local origin; you will hardly find expats going there and the ones who have been, often complain about the non-availability of beer and other alcohol. We however found the lack of alcohol more than compensated by the lack of tourists.
Cox's Bazar is also a seaport. It has a large harbor and every morning there is a fish market; there are markets like these in Chittagong and on the islands as well, for instance on Moheshkali Island, were the majority of men live off fishing.

Cox’s Bazar has also, according to the newspaper, a interesting safari park. Since we were there anyway the safari park became part of our itinerary. Upon entering the park, we had to watch a sort of sound-and-light-show first. We entered a dark room, which seemed to be the mini version of the safari park, included sound and light show. One after the other, the spotlight fell on animals and plants. Horrible screaming and roaring could be heard. At a certain moment, we even saw a crocodile in the process of eating a man’s leg (the bleeding leg is visible at the end of the yellow arrow).
Only after our visit, it appeared we should have thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle, as it was by far the most exciting part of the park. Furthermore, there was nothing but animals in cages, which were barely large enough to lodge a parrot. Visitors, walking around, were the only unattached species!
