In Scandinavia, the winters are long and cold and therefore, the people love to celebrate spring and summer with delicious food. In Sweden, you will find large woods as well as lakes. Salmon is very popular, raw as well as cooked. Also other types of fish, like herring, are loved by Swedish people. Smörgåsbord, the buffet with various delicious dishes, is here as popular as in other Scandinavian countries. The long winter is an ideal time to organize parties and serve lots of food. In Swedish cooking you will find a lot of fresh green herbs, like dill, chives and parsley.
Special days in Sweden, on which you may cook these dishes, are
6 June, Flag Day; 8 November, the "Stockholm Blood Bath in 1520; and 10 December, the dying date of the Swedish inventor of dynamite, Alfred Nobel, in 1896. Click on culinary calendar for more links between cooking and worldwide celebration.
